Attic Ventilation Motors

When the time comes to replace your ac fan’s motor, you can choose from our selection of Century, Marathon, Fasco, or Lomanco. Each motor is brand new and has a manufacturer’s warranty.

Maintaining year-round attic ventilation is crucial to saving your attic from damage. The buildup of heat and moisture can lead to problems, such as ice damming in the winter and rotted roof shingles through all seasons.

Attic fans cool attics by pulling cool outside air through vents while also pushing hot, stale air out. Without a soffit or gable fan, the hot air in the attic will make its way into the home and overwork your air conditioning, along with your wallet. A fan motor is important to the whole house ventilation system.

Troubleshooting Your Attic Fan Motor

If you are having trouble with your attic ventilation fan, there are multiple possibilities to what the issue could be.

A pretty common problem is that it simply won’t turn on. If the circuit breaker, thermostat, and fuse are working, then you should consider replacing the motor.

Lack of airflow could be caused by debris stuck in the fan, but also check that your fan is secured in its place. If the fan is not getting enough air it can start to rattle or shake.

Make sure the attic windows are open. (The attic fan and windows should be at least 30 feet apart.) If you notice that there is a burning smell coming from your attic fan, it is possible you need to replace the motor.

Attic Fan Maintenance

Most attic fan motors last between 10-15 years. Make sure to do some basic maintenance every few years if you want to ensure a long life for your fan.

  • Clean the fan shutters, or roof vents, in the wall every few years. This is where hot air escapes.
  • Lubricate the fan’s oil ports to keep it running smoothly.
  • Wash fan blades to remove build up dirt and dust that can cause the fan to spin unevenly and possibly lead to premature wear or failure.
  • If you really want to guarantee your fan is in good condition, schedule an HVAC appointment before summer starts.
